Description and Basic Information ::

| The city of Del Mar is located about twenty miles north of San Diego. Best known for their thoroughbred racing season, Del Mar is home to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, one of the town’s main attractions. The racing season is a brief 43 days that begins in late July and ends in early September. In the 1880s, where the track stands today, was a hotel, dance pavilion, bathhouse and railroad depot. By the 1930s local celebrities Crosby, Durante, and Pat O'Brien cosponsored a venture that built the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. |
